Creating a sketch is the most spontaneous activity of the visual artist--immediate and almost thoughtless transference of an impression or imaginative intimation to a waiting surface is my definition of sketching. The process is an exploration of discovery and feeds heavier and more calculated work that may arise from it--the freshness of a sketch is intoxicating, and captures a quality of life and animation that can't be achieved by deliberation. Sketching is my favorite pastime!
